Deadline nears for meter tampering amnesty

Endumeni Municipality is losing nearly R2-million a month because of illegal electrical connections

Time is running out for those wanting to claim amnesty for electricity meter tampering.  The Endumeni Municipality has set August 31 as the deadline.

Endumeni loses nearly R2-million a month to illegal electrical connections.  Those wanting to claim amnesty have to report to the Municipality and pay R100 ‘admission of guilt’.

Thereafter, when the independent company, tasked to check every meter in the municipal area, starts their audit, those who have applied for amnesty will escape the full wrath of the law.

Their tampered meters/illegal connections will be removed and changed with out further cost.  However, offenders who have not applied for amnesty and are found to be tampering will face a fine of not less that R2000 and will be asked to pay for the replacement of the tampered meter and possibly be liable for further costs.

For details contact the Municipality 034 21 22121 or your local ward councillor.
