AS WE HEAD towards the end of Women’s Month we take a look at the women of Ikusasa Labo Disabled Care Centre who have taken to opening a soup kitchen to aid the destitute.
These five women, who have worked at Ikusasa Labo for many years, looking after children and adults who are disabled as well as those who are affected or infected with HIV/AIDS, saw how these people were in need of food as they needed to take their medication with full stomachs and so decided to start the soup kitchen.
According to Grace Mbatha, who started Ikusasa Labo, the project has received positive responses from many local businesses although they do still face some challenging months where she has to use her old-age grant money to ensure that the people at the shelter are fed.
“These ladies are very selfless people and have been of great help as they sometimes bring food from their own homes which we cook and serve to those less fortunate,” said Grace.
As we draw the curtains for yet another Women’s month we are reminded that there are still some good people out there.
