ACCORDING to NAPTOSA president Basil Manuel, in a report the education department reveals there are 517 positions across the province for principals, deputy principals and heads of department.
Manuel says this needs to be rectified.
“Our view is the sooner we fill posts the better and it also ensures that administrative efficiency is ensured.”
“Without the filling of posts we have too much uncertainty in the department and we want our education department in KZN to ensure far more regular vacancy lists, so that we do not build up a huge bank of vacant posts,” he said.
KZN SADTU’s Siyabonga Mdletshe agreed and continued to say that many teachers are overworked due to vacant posts.
“It is very difficult for schools to run without managers, so it has also been our concern that our members, teachers in general, are over worked because of vacancies that are not filled,” she concluded.Teacher Teaching Math Class (Image from Google images)
