Masons’ new ‘open approach’

A proposal has been made to set up a display at Talana Museum, depicting the history of the Lodge in Dundee.

Founded in 1885, the Biggarsberg Unity Lodge is probably the oldest ‘club’ of its kind in the area.
The graceful building on Beaconsfield Street is a national monument and a landmark in the town.
The Free Masons are a far more ‘open’ to membership than previously, and on Saturday members who met at the Lodge for a regular meeting were happy to be photographed.

These days the majority of members are from out of town – either Newcastle or Vryheid – with only a few from Dundee/Glencoe.
Gary Vorster of Newcastle was recently installed as Master of the Biggarsberg Unity Lodge. Gary said the Masons do a ‘tremendous amount of valuable charity work in the areas in which they operate, and the Lodge would like to be more public’.
