Keep the doctors away on Newcastle Bandana Day

“We all have hopes and dreams. Purchasing a bandana for only R25 could make a difference, offering those battling leukaemia and other life threatening blood disorders a chance to have a brighter future,” explained Chief Executive Officer for The Sunflower Fund, Tarryn Corlett.

On Friday, October 17, Newcastle businessmen and women will unite for a cause that couldn’t be more deserving. Schools will have an opportunity to show their support by sporting their bold bandanas on Friday, October 31.

The Sunflower Funds encourages the Newcastle residents to purchase a bandana from Ncandu 86 Round Table in support of the men and women fighting a fight with no apparent end in sight.

Losing their hair as a result of chemotherapy is often the final straw for some. Initiatives like Bandana Day help highlight this particular aspect of their struggle, paying tribute to those who are brave enough to bear it all despite their insecurities.

Funds raised through National Bandana Day go towards paying for expensive tissue typing (DNA) tests for new donors to join the South African Bone Marrow Registry (SABMR).

The Sunflower Fund relies heavily on the Bandana Day fund-raiser to continue testing donors to help patients suffering from leukaemia and other life threatening blood disorders. These patients may require bone marrow transplants, which is often their only hope of survival. Bandana Day is only one initiative that makes it possible for these patients not only to survive, but to live long, healthy lives.
