Update: Shooting by Nedbank

Suspect shot while trying to disarm police officer

Police were called out just before 6am this morning to attend to a complaint of people fighting in Murchison Street. When police arrived, they were told that the suspects were in a nearby vehicle. On approaching the vehicle, it sped away, ignoring a stop street. Police gave chase and the suspects stopped their vehicle in the middle of the Alexandra and Murchison Street intersection. Police instructed the suspects to pull over to the side of the street, but they once again attempted to flee. The car was boxed in and that’s when the suspects became aggressive. The driver resisted arrest, but was detained in a police vehicle. The passenger continued trying to attack the officers and was shot in the leg while trying to disarm an officer.

The driver faces charges of driving under the influence and resisting arrest. The passenger is under police guard in hospital and faces charges of assault and interfering with a police officer in the execution of his duties.
