Claims of ‘police brutality’ have once again been laid against the Dundee SAPS. This was after an 18-year-old student was allegedly assaulted by two police officers on November 20.
The student sustained injuries to the arm, side and chemical conjunctivitis in both eyes after he had been allegedly pepper-sprayed and pushed into a police vehicle in Karellandman Street after he was stopped by two police officers while ‘travelling with his driver.’

Police said the student resisted arrest, was driving without a license and the vehicle he was driving was also not legally registered.
Charges and counter-charges of assault were opened as were charges of driving without a license, resisting arrest and driving an unregistered vehicle.
The Independent Police Investigations (IPD) was contacted and they in turn recommended that the case be investigated locally. The Public Prosecutor declined to prosecute on any of the charges.
