Lighting a candle for Aids awareness
The mayor conveyed a message that the candle represented love and hope
Emnambithi/Ladysmith Mayor Vincent Madlala, along with HIV/Aids activist and counsellor Mr Sarjoo, commemorated ‘World Aids Day’ by lighting a candle in remembrance of and respect for those affected / infected by the pandemic.
Mayor Madlala says that the people of Ladysmith and the country as a whole are now “showing reasonable progress” when it comes to infections and HIV/Aids related illnesses, and are taking care of themselves by using their ARVs.
The purpose and significance of the candle-lighting ceremony was to raise public awareness of the HIV/Aids pandemic and its critical impact on those infected and / or affected.
The mayor conveyed a message that the candle represented love and hope.
He also highlighted the fact that people must continue to raise awareness to “abstain, be faithful and ‘condomise’.”
