On November 26, Umtshezi Municipality councillors met at 10am for their monthly council meeting in the council chamber.Among those present were the municipality’s management team, PR councillors as well as ward councillors.
The Municipal Manager Nonhlanhla Njoko was asked by the Speaker Cesar Nunes to read the notice of the meeting just after that all rose to their feet and began to sing the National Anthem.

Speaker Cesar Nunes then made council aware of the statements and communication that have been sent through to his office. One of which was the strike, which took place on the R103; he expressed his disappointment that the members whom were invited to present their petition did not attend the meeting. Thereafter councillors got right into the verbal motions or notice to council, where councillors expressed great concern about various topics within their communities.

PR Councillor Mthembeni Majola was the first to make his notice to council. He asked why councillors were unable to visit Councillor Zwane who was shot and injured. He said that a security guard was keeping tabs on the councillor during his stay in hospital. Next was Ward Four Councillor Ugan Chetty who spoke about the lack of discipline among staff at the municipality.

“I am shocked at the lack of discipline, we are not running a circus but a business.” He added that those in authority need to be firm for this has resulted in skilled staff leaving the municipality.He also highlighted that the community residing in the lower parts of Forderville needs speed bumps urgently.

Business owners in lower Harding Street, around the KFC area, have made complaints about cars parking in front of their businesses. Councillor Chetty said that, “this has been turning customers away,” he went on to ask that traffic officers patrol that area. To end the verbal motion, Councillor Vilakazi reported that he was unhappy with the miscommunication between the community members in his ward and added that it needs urgent attention.
