KZN affected by measles outbreak

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases recorded a dramatic increase in laboratory confirmed measles cases.

Reports by health24.com have suggested that KwaZulu-Natal is one of five provinces affected by the recent measles outbreak in South Africa.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases recorded a dramatic increase in laboratory confirmed measles cases, further stating the Northern Cape Province had the highest number of confirmed cases.

Other areas affected are Gauteng, Mpumalanga and the Western Cape.

Look out for the following symptoms:

  • High fever
  • Runny nose
  • Harsh, dry cough
  • Red, inflamed eyes
  • Aversion to bright light

Residents are urged to visit their nearest health care practitioner the if any of the above mentioned symptoms persist.
