Police responded to a report of a shooting in Parklane in the Hyde Park area on Saturday morning.
On arrival at the scene, they were met by a family member of the person who had been shot.
The victim was dead, allegedly as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. An inquest will be held to determine the exact cause of death.
A firearm and other forensic evidence was seized from the scene.
At this stage, no foul play is suspected, as the man was alone at the time of the shooting incident. The deceased has not yet been officially identified.
