‘Seizing’ the opportunity

The seizure of property is a sticky situation for those tangled in its treacherous web.

The seizure of property is a sticky situation for those tangled in its treacherous web.

Without an SAP 13(B) form, things could get a whole lot trickier.

“An SAP 13(B) form is used when the arresting officer confiscates property from the accused,” said SAPS spokesperson, Captain Shooz Magudulela.

The purpose of the form is to expedite the follow-up process.

If the form is completed accurately, the investigating officer will have the following information at his disposal:

– The history and description of the article.

– The date and time the article was seized.

– The name of the police station where the article was seized.

– The case number.

– The SAP 13(B) receipt number.

– The rank.

– The name and surname of the accused.

“A copy of the form is given to the accused, one stays in the docket itself and the other in the register,” concluded Capt Magudulela.

Residents are reminded that it is compulsory for an SAP 13(B) form to be completed before any property is confiscated.
