‘Huge’ demand for gap housing

A niche for 'gap housing' has been identified in Estcourt and developers have pounced on this opportunity to tailor-make homes costing R300 000 and less for a growing market

A niche for ‘gap housing’ has been identified in Estcourt and developers have pounced on this opportunity to tailor-make homes costing R300 000 and less for a growing market. This was revealed at the council meeting last Wednesday when Ntokozweni Developers, who have been constructing the Mkamba Gardens in Brewitt Park, said there was a demand for housing under R300 000. Describing this potential market as ‘huge’ the representatives gave councillors and management an overview on the progress of the construction of the housing development.

The representatives were particularly appreciative that council had approved overhead electrification, saying this decreased the cost. They added that 250 sites had been earmarked for the site, which would support the Integrated Development Plan, create employment and increase revenue for the municipality in terms of rates and services.
