
Ematsheni police, visible policing and detective services conducted festive season operations in the Ematsheni area during the long weekend of December 24 to 28. At the end of the operation, the team had made 13 arrests.
Two suspects, aged 25 and 38, were arrested in two separate incidents for being in possession of suspected stolen vehicles.
The first vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, was seized on December 24 just before 7pm in the Moyeni area after police found that the registration plates were fake and the engine number had been tampered with. The second vehicle, an Audi A4, was seized on December 28 after it was found that the vehicle had been stolen in October in the Protea Glen area. The vehicles are valued at about R800,000.
A 25-year-old man was arrested for a house robbery that took place earlier this year in the Ematsheni area. A cell-phone that was taken during the robbery was recovered.
Furthermore, a 21-year-old man was arrested for attempted rape, while two men (aged 25 and 60) were arrested and charged for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Another 25-year-old man was arrested and charged for housebreaking, while 7 others were arrested for traffic violations.
All suspects appeared in the Bergville Magistrate’s Court on December 29.
