Messages of condolences and tributes to a kind man mingled with feelings of disgust and disappointment as news that Malcolm (Stick) Green was shot dead at his home, a smallholding on the R103. Police received the call of a shooting on Monday, January 5 at about 2am.

“On arrival police met the security guard who informed them that Mr Green, the farm owner, was shot. The security guard led the police to where Mr Green was lying on the floor with one gunshot wound to the stomach,” commented police spokesperson Captain JS Sokhela.

Emergency medical Services were called to the scene and confirmed that Mr Green was deceased.
Initial investigations on scene established that Mr Green’s double cab bakkie was stolen. Media reports later stated that the vehicle was recovered in Ezakheni.

“No arrest has been made at this stage and a case of murder and house robbery has been opened. The case is being investigated by the Estcourt Detectives and anyone with information can contact the Branch Commander on 036 342 9512. Any information that can result in the arrest and successful prosecution of the culprits will be rewarded,” added Captain Sokhela.

Meanwhile residents have taken to social media to express their condolences to the Green family, most fondly remembering Mr Green as a kind, pleasant man who was also a teacher and a writer. Others have called for the suspect/s to be brought to book timely.
