Ladysmith police would like to warn the community about an employment scam doing the rounds.
A local resident recently forked over R3000 to one such scam artist, who then disappeared with the money.
Unscrupulous individuals are taking advantage of the SAPS recruitment drive and are approaching unemployed young people, claiming they are police officers and that they can arrange a post for them. It must be made clear that the SAPS does not charge applicants any fees during their recruitment process.
Those involved in this scam may, upon their arrest, be charged with corruption and impersonating a police officer. It must also be borne in mind that those who willingly hand over their money to secure a position of employment can likewise be charged with corruption.
Any job-seekers who are approached in this way are advised to contact police immediately so that the suspects can be brought to book.
