Exact Clothing Store in Harding Street was the latest victim of the crime spree that seems to target retail stores. On Monday, January 5 Exact employees reported for work as usual, when it was noticed that the alarm code wouldn’t disarm the system.
One of the employees then made their way to the back of the store, to the electrical distributor box and found that wires have been cut and the store had no power supply. A bunch of keys was also found by employees.
It was used to gain access to lockers, which stored a supply of cellular phones. The suspects made off with 200 cellular phones, an unknown amount of electronic tablets as well as an unknown number of male footwear.
On arrival of the police it was discovered that entry to the store was gained through the roof. A case of business burglary was opened after the crime was reported at 7.10am. Exact employees have their suspicions as to who the suspects are. Estcourt Detectives are investigating the matter and fingerprints were taken from the crime scene moments after the crime was reported. A local electrician was called in later that week to restore the store’s electricity.
No arrests have been made at this current stage. Any positive information, which could lead to an arrest and successful prosecution, will be rewarded. “We urge any member of the community who might have information to forward such information to the Branch Commander of Estcourt, Detective Major Mkhize on 036 342 9512,” encouraged police spokesperson, Captain JS Sokhela.
