Residents are warned to steer clear of an alleged conman/men who have resorted to tricking locals into paying for jobs. The modus operandi is to approach youngsters, especially young females under the pretence of being employed at Umtshezi Municipality.

The unsuspecting victim is fed lies about job opportunities within local government but this comes with a price tag.
If the individual agrees, the trickster requests cash in order to secure the ‘job’. Once the money exchanges hands, the victim does not see or hear from the ‘recruiter’.

Umtshezi Municipal Manager Nonhlanhla Njoko says that a number of cases have been reported and alerts the community to be aware of these sinister scams. “We are advising the community not to be lured by anyone, as jobs are not for sale,” said Ms Njoko.
