Staff from a business in Lorne Street witnessed an alleged crime last Tuesday night. Between 1.30am and 2.30am, the staff allegedly saw burglars stealing goods from a truck parked near the Caravan Park. According to the business owner who relayed the information to the Estcourt News, three people were seen off-loading the stationary truck while three more people were seen inside the Caravan Park loading the goods onto a white Hilux bakkie. He believes that a syndicate could be operating, as there was an attempted theft from a truck last Monday night too.

“The people off-loading the truck would throw the items over the pallisade fence, thereafter it was loaded onto the waiting vehicle. It seems as if the burglars alert each other of passers-by by flashing their cellphone lights at each other, signalling that they should hide away. The grass in the area where they were hiding is flattened,” commented the business owner.

He said that his staff was allegedly threatened when the burglars noticed them watching the scene unfold.
The resident says that theft from trucks in Lorne Street is not uncommon, as drivers who shy away from the truck stops and sleep over in town are soft targets. “I have spoken to the municipality and asked them to place flood lights in that area so there is no place for criminals to hide. I will also alert the police,” said the business owner.
