MEC calls for probe into stolen firearms and drugs

A Ladysmith police detective is in hot water after losing firearms that were in his custody.

The detective booked into a hotel on the Durban Beach Front on Tuesday last week and locked evidence (firearms and drugs) he was transporting in his car overnight. The next morning, he allegedly saw that his car had been broken into and that the evidence had been stolen.

MEC for Community Safety & Security Mr Willies Mchunu has now called for an investigation into the theft of the firearms and drugs.

MEC Mchunu is asking members of the public to come forward with information that could help police solve the case.

The MEC says this issue should be dealt with immediately so that the firearms can be recovered quickly and not be used in heinous crimes in the province.
