Bergville policewoman killed by boyfriend

The boyfriend died at the scene and Constable Hlomuka died later in hospital

A policewoman stationed at Bergville SAPS was shot and killed at her home in Woodford Location, Bergville, on Saturday at about 3pm.

It is alleged that 31-year-old Constable Penelope Buyisiwe Hlomuka was assaulted by her boyfriend, also aged 31.

While she was loading her personal belongings into her vehicle in order to leave him, the boyfriend managed to get hold of her state firearm.

He shot Const Hlomuka, seriously injuring her in the head, before turning the weapon on himself.

The boyfriend died at the scene and Const Hlomuka died later in hospital.

Bergville police have opened a case of murder into Const Hlomuka’s death and an inquest into the boyfriend’s death.
