With the excessively high temperatures being experienced lately, police have noticed that criminals are taking advantage of people’s need for a cool breeze blowing through the home. People who leave their doors and windows open are vulnerable to criminals.
Residents are requested to be aware of the fact that their vulnerability to crime increases if easy access to their property is perceived.
In the case of properties which are more secure, police have found that some criminals pose as municipal workers, etc, to gain access. Make certain that those who wish to gain entry to your property are indeed who they say they are and do represent the company they say they work for.
Do not hesitate to make calls to find out and, if in doubt, report suspicious behaviour and persons to the police.
Vehicle safety also requires attention.
Wherever you leave your vehicle parked for a short period of time, ensure that the windows are closed, the vehicle is locked, and any loose items or valuable items are either removed from the vehicle or locked in the boot. Be alert and check to see if anyone has seen you move the items to the boot. Criminals often watch their potential targets before striking. Report suspicious behaviour and activity in this regard.
Should you need to park your vehicle overnight or for extended periods, it is always better to remove all loose and valuable items from the vehicle altogether.
Please remember that the more difficult it is for a criminal to access your vehicle, the less appealing your vehicle becomes as a target.
