Once again, taxi violence has raised its ugly head in Newcastle at the taxi rank.
This morning, warring taxi associations from Madadeni and Sizwe Taxi Association locked horns, with bricks, rocks and bullets flying.
Allegedly, the fight was caused by the Madadeni taxi associations.
The damage to many of the vehicles was irreparable.
Sources claim only one person was seriously injured in the incident.
Police were called in, but had to wait for squadrons of riot teams to eventually stop the violence.
At this time, details regarding the incident are still sketchy, however, the cause of the incident is once again the taxi routes.
Bullets holes ridged many taxis, and police officials could not confirm how many shots had been fired.
At the time of this article, the arrest of two suspects was confirmed, and sources revealed another two had since been apprehended.
Taxi driver sources have revealed that there is no end in sight to violence, and this will continue until one of the groups steps down.
“We are ready to fight for our lives, but one association will stop fighting and another will start. It never stops,” said the driver.
Armed with Knobkieries, bricks, sticks, brooms and 3-inch poles, taxi drivers littered the sidewalks of the taxi rank as riot police tried to quell the situation.
The drivers hurled insults and threats at the officers, hoping to be able to let loose on their opposing faction from the other taxi associations.
