A 35-year-old man was arrested, charged and appeared before the Howick Magistrates Court after police patrolling the N3 found dagga to the value of R10 000. Police from the Nottingham Road Police Station were patrolling along the N3 near Balgowan when they spotted a ‘suspicious-looking motor vehicle’ travelling on the N3.
Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane explained that police stopped the vehicle and conducted a search. “A bag containing 10 kilograms of dagga with the street value of more than R10 000 was found. An unlicensed 9mm Norinco pistol with five live rounds of ammunition was also recovered.” Police arrested the man who is from Lesotho and he was charged for possession of dagga and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the good work made by Nottingham SAPS members.
“The dagga seized was meant to be sold to our communities including our young children. The recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to determine if it was used in any crime in the province,” she said.
