A 30-year-old male was arrested by the Estcourt Cluster Crime Intelligence for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition on Wednesday, February 25. The crime cluster received information of a suspect who was in the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in Nkunzini, Ntabamhlophe.
The police proceeded to the suspect’s premises and conducted a search. The police recovered a 7.65 pistol as well as a 9mm pistol with seven rounds of live ammunition. The 30-year-old was arrested and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. He was expected to make his first appearance in the Estcourt Magistrate Court on Friday, February 27.
KwaZulu-Natal’s Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the members for the arrest of the suspect and the recovery of the unlicensed firearms. “It is important that we remove these firearms from society as they are to commit serious crimes including murders. The community needs to be more vigilant and report those that have illegal firearms to police,” she exclaimed.
