Brazen criminals made off with machinery and held security staff at gunpoint during a robbery on Friday, March 13. The armed robbery was reported at the Transnet office at 4.30am.
It is reported that two suspects jumped over a fence and approached the guard room where the security guards were on duty. They pointed a firearm at them and tied their hands up.
One suspect stayed with the security staff in the guard room, whilst holding them at gunpoint and the other ushered in waiting vehicles.
Once the vehicles were inside the yard, machinery belonging to Transnet was hitched onto it.
The suspect waiting in the guard house fled after the machinery was loaded onto the vehicles and the suspects made their getaway.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel TM Mabaso says that no arrests have been made and the case is under investigation.
