Illegal liquor outlet closed, owner arrested

Hard liquor and several cases of beer were seized

A 48-year-old man was arrested and his ‘illegal business’ in the Umbulwane area shut down by Ladysmith Visible Policing officers on Thursday after it was found that he did not have a licence to sell liquor.

Officers swooped on five different premises after receiving a complaint from the community that liquor was being sold in the area.

During the operation, which forms part of ‘Operation Paseka’, it was found that at one of the establishments, a man was not in possession of a licence to sell liquor. Hard liquor and several cases of beer were seized.

The man faces charges of selling liquor without a licence.
