A huge rock covered in blood lay along the pavement in Alfred Street while in the distance a man was being beaten by community members who witnessed his alleged plan to murder, fail. Crowds of passers-by as well as shop owners stood at a safe distance to watch the commotion unravel.

On Tuesday, March 24 at 3.30pm the police were alerted of a shooting at the taxi rank (Masukwana) in Alfred Street. At the same time police received report of a man who was being assaulted by community members who witnessed the shooting. It is alleged that the man who was being assaulted by members of the community was the one who fired multiple shots at another man.

Once the community members noticed he had run out of live rounds, they took it upon themselves to chase the man, who tried to flee via Harding Street. But the crowd of angered witnesses were just too fast for this panicked man and they caught him across the Engen petrol station in Harding Street.

The man suffered injuries to his head after community members assaulted him. Upon arriving on scene, emergency services rushed both the men to the Estcourt Hospital for medical attention. Cases of attempted murder were opened; police are also currently continuing their investigations regarding the incidents. No suspects have been arrested at this point and the motive behind the shooting is currently unknown.
