Additional documents needed for firearm certificate

The Ladysmith Designated Firearms Officer (DFO) would like to make clients aware of the following changes made by the Central Firearms Register that have come into effect as from January 1, 2015.

The changes affect new Competency applications, renewal of Competency applications, and Further Competency applications.

Upon applying for any of these certificates, the following documentation must be submitted: A Proficiency Certificate (Training Certificate) from the training centre where you completed the training, and a SASSETA Certificate or a Statement of Results from the training centre where you completed your training.

All applications submitted from January 1, 2015, which did not have a SASSETA Certificate or a Statement of Results attached to them have been returned to local SAPS Firearm Registration Centres.

If you have applied as stated above, please contact your local DFO office at your nearest police station as soon as possible with the necessary additional documentation. Ladysmith applicants can contact their local DFO office on 036-638-3402 or 036-638-3311. Alternatively, please visit the Ladysmith police station, Room 17 and 26.
