Winterton detectives have made two arrests for a house robbery and attempted murder that took place at Imani Farm in Winterton earlier this year. Two suspects, aged 25 and 28, were apprehended on Friday.
It is alleged that on February 8, a 47-year-old man was sleeping in his house when the suspects forced open the burglar guards. They took a laptop, a cell-phone, a wallet and an undisclosed amount of cash. When the victim woke up, he was assaulted with an unknown object.
The suspects fled the scene on foot.
A case of house robbery was reported at Winterton police station and Winterton detectives worked tirelessly to track down the culprits.
The first suspect was arrested in the Loskop area, where he was hiding, and he led police officers to his accomplice in Winterton. The officers recovered a laptop and a cell-phone that were stolen during the robbery.
Both suspects were charged for house robbery and attempted murder, and appeared in the Colenso Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Monday).
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, has applauded the Winterton detectives for their sterling work in arresting the suspects and recovering the stolen property. “We believe that our members will thoroughly investigate this case and secure a good conviction,” she said.
