Teens intend to leave no girl behind

Since the Power Circle's inception at the beginning of the year, the girls have made it their vision to achieve their goals and empowering other girls to do the same.

Members from Leave No Girl Behind International (LNGBI) Power Circle at Lincoln Heights are determined to make a positive contribution to society.

Since the Power Circle’s inception at the beginning of the year, the girls have made it their vision to achieve their goals and empowering other girls to do the same.

As part of the Power Circle, the girls have the opportunity to receive leadership training, engage in community service, Skype with individuals from other countries, and also discuss relevant issues.

Nosipho Gamede and Shimti Singh, two of the members, said not many girls had support systems. They felt it was easier for girls to support each other as they went through similar struggles.

While support and learning played an important role in the group, the girls claimed there was a lot of work to be done in the field of gender equality.

“Girls have all been generalised as not equal to boys. This is a way for girls to be exposed as capable in this world. I would like to be acknowledged as a girl who can excel in anything thrown her way. I believe that Leave No Girl Behind International has already empowered me by letting me be a part of this organisation. I wish to help empower other girls now,” said Aatikai Pathai.

Sinethemba Zitha agreed, and felt LNGBI could inspire them in becoming role models.
