Emnambithi/Ladysmith Mayor Vincent Madlala has strongly condemned the senseless shooting and killing of Ladysmith businessman Mr Aboobaker  (Baboo) Omarjee, casually known to locals as Madevu.

Returning from his general store in the Driefontein area on Tuesday afternoon,  Aboobaker Omarjee was shot and wounded in what appears to have been an attempted hijacking.

“I would firstly wish to convey my sincerest condolences to the Omarjee family, as well as the employees of Madevu Store,” said the mayor.

The sad passing of Mr Omarjee has dealt a huge blow to the community of Ladysmith and especially the Driefontein area.

“He was a very helpful man to the community and always provided for those who were in need. I wish to assure everyone that no stone will be left unturned. Police will look tirelessly and find the criminals behind this senseless act. We cannot tolerate such levels of crime directed at anyone. I strongly condemn this killing in all ways; those responsible for this must be brought before the might of the law,” added Mayor Madlala.
