Shoplifter gets jail time

A 3-year sentence was handed down last week, one year of which is suspended for five years

A convicted shoplifter will spend the next 2 years behind bars after being found guilty in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court recently.

38-year-old Zandile Mzimande was arrested after concealing groceries in her handbag and leaving a supermarket at the Ezakheni Plaza earlier this month.

She has since appeared in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court, where she was found guilty of shoplifting.

A 3-year sentence was handed down last week, one year of which is suspended for five years. This means she will effectively serve 2 years behind bars.

The investigating officer, Warrant Officer Mthethwa, welcomed the sentence and hopes it will serve as a deterrent to others who think it is okay not to pay for their purchases.
