Umtshezi Municipality would like to advise the public of criminals who are using the municipality as a front to gain access to resident’s homes in order to steal.
On Monday afternoon, a municipal employee’s home was ransacked after an unknown person posing as an employee from the electricity department lied to the domestic worker that he was sent to do work at the house. The home was ransacked and many valuables stolen while the domestic worker was locked in a bathroom.
In a separate incident in Jacaranda Crescent earlier this year, a family home was robbed of valuables after suspects posing as municipal employees gained access to the house. Municipal Manager Nonhlanhla Gamede advises residents to be cautious when allowing entry to their premises.
She said that municipal employees are identifiable by their uniform and an identification card. Mrs Gamede added that if residents are unsure, they are welcome to call the municipality on 036 342 7800.
