‘Demonic’ game grips schools

Local schools have sent notices to parents, advising them that 'learners are not allowed to play Charlie Charlie at the school

Described as ‘demonic’, a game called ‘Charlie Charlie’ is making its way into schools across South Africa.

In Estcourt too, local schools have sent notices to parents, advising them that ‘learners are not allowed to play Charlie Charlie at the school.

They will be suspended immediately if caught.”

The game, which supposedly summons spirits is played by placing two pencils across each other on a piece of paper where the words ‘yes’ and ‘no’ are written.

The players ask a question and according to a news report from a 12-year-old in Steenburg, Cape Town, ‘the pencil moved without anyone touching it.’

Charlie Charlie, according to Wikipedia is a modern-day version of a ‘pencil-and-paper’ game, which originated in Spain.

The game surfaced in 2015 when the hashtag #CharlieCharlieChallenge started trending.
