Dundee bowlers claim Northern Zone Pairs titles
Dundee bowlers secure both titles after producing strong performances on home greens.
A total of 24 men’s teams and 10 women’s teams gathered at the Dundee Bowling Club last weekend to contest the Northern Zone Pairs.
After three rounds of play, the section winners were, Willie Nel and Graham Cole, Louis de Jager and Greg Conolly, Ian de Jaager and Ronnie Brockman (all Dundee Bowling Club), Abraham Louw and Leon van der Merwe (Volksrust), John and Trevor Douthwaite, and Ron Howe and Michael McMaster.
Ian and Ronnie continue winning form
In the Dundee quarter final clash, Ian and Ronnie got the better of Louis and Greg before going on to beat Willie and Graham to reach the final.
In the other play-offs, John and Trevor pipped Abraham and Leon after an extra end before defeating Ron and Michael to book their place in the final.
Ian and Ronnie continued their excellent form in the final, running out comfortable winners against the tiring Douthwaite brothers.
Dundee takes both titles
In the women’s section, the winners were Elsie de Jager and Sylvia Malan (Dundee), Alice Howe and Sue Hutchinson, and Nancy Steyn and Nicola Redelinghuys (from Newcastle).
In a closely-fought contest, Elsie and Sylvia edged out Alice and Sue before beating Nancy and Nicola in the final, giving Dundee Bowling Club both titles.
