Taxi goes up in smoke on Cornhill Street

Quick thinking teacher ensures that the fire did not spread and cause serious injury

A taxi driver had a narrow escape this morning when his metered taxi caught alight on Cornhill Street near Ethangeni School.

The Buthelezi metered taxi vehicle was turned into a ball of smoke as the engine caught alight.  Mr Buthelezi, who was alone in the vehicle, jumped out and a teacher at Ethangeni School raced over with a fire  extinguisher to put out the fire.

The Endumeni Fire Brigade also arrived and quelled the flames to ensure that the petrol in the vehicle did not ignite.  Mr Buthelezi was shaken but not injured.
