Alleged speedster crashes into store

A shopkeeper was left in a state of shock, after a vehicle crashed into her store’s door at the Amanath Centre on Sunday morning.

Wishing to remain anonymous, she said the incident happened at 9am.

“If it were not for the burglar bars, the car would have crashed into the shop,” she said.

It was speculated the motorist had been speeding, lost control of his car and came to a standstill after crashing into the shop’s door.

The storekeeper claimed motorists often sped through the Amanath Centre’s parking area.

“We never know if they are going to crash into our stores or not. I feel speed humps should be allocated to the centre to ensure motorists drive slower,” she said.

Councillor Matthew Shunmugam explained each ward was allocated two speed humps a year, and they had already been prioritised for Ward 3 this financial year. “We will have to look if we can send in a special request to have some allocated to the Amanath Centre,” he said.
