A jubilant atmosphere filled the Madadeni Majuba TVET College campus on Monday morning, when 27 students graduated from the KwaZulu-Natal Retail Schools of Excellence project.
The project was initiated by the Wholesale and Retail Sector Education and Training Authority (W&RSETA), in conjunction with four TVET colleges and the Durban University of Technology.
Martha Shingane, Manager of Stakeholder Relations, said the project was officially launched by the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Dr Blade Nzimande, on 14 August 2014.
“It is aimed at promoting collaboration between business and institutions of learning to develop graduates who are suitably skilled and qualified to address the skills and demands of the wholesale and retail industry,” she explained.
It was also an initiative to create a more positive attitude towards TVET colleges.
“Everyone wants to go to universities, but the TVET colleges are fully equipped to offer students the necessary skills to join the workforce.” said Ms Shingane
A total of 405 students from across KZN had enrolled in the initiative and Majuba College was but one of the TVET colleges that had joined forces with W&RSETA to ensure Newcastillians were fully prepared to tackle the world of retail and wholesale from the roots of the industry, and eventually work themselves up to management.
With the students acquiring the necessary skills to create the necessary opportunities to succeed in life, W&RSETA’s mission to offer hope to all is a success, said Ms Shingane.
“W&RSETA has made many positive strides to uplift communities through skills development projects on small businesses, rural youth and community development, bursaries and many others,” she concluded.
Congratulations to all graduates!
