Members of the SAPS in KZN province worked tirelessly to remove the unlicensed firearms from the criminals in the run-up to the festive season.

Police  recovered  28 unlicensed firearms and 101 live rounds of ammunition throughout the province.

A total of 31 suspects were arrested for possession of unlicensed rifles, shotguns, home-made firearms and pistols.

The operations were conducted across the province and started  November 22  until  November he arrested suspects appeared in the various magistrates’ court.

“We are also investigating whether these firearms were used to kill our police officers while executing their duties. These operations will continue throughout this Festive Season to minimise violent crimes. The recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crimes in the country,” KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
