Delivering health with MediPost

Chronic medication dispensed within minutes – no queues, no fuss.

Chronic medication dispensed within minutes – no queues, no fuss.

The latest step in the saga of Government-dispensed medication might seem far-fetched, although the reality of Medipost is one of convenience.

Ward 3’s War Room boasts the pilot project of the new system.

Municipal high-up and Ward 3 Councillor, Matthew Shunmugam said the concept of Medipost was to have medication delivered to a local, central depot on a regular basis.

“We are encouraging people to change over from the clinic services, and get it delivered almost to their doorsteps each Tuesday.”

The medication dispensed via Medipost is barcoded; residents’ tablets are scanned and checked off a computer-based database to prevent mix-ups.

A first-come, first-served ticket system eliminates most queuing.

“We used to have people sitting almost the entire day without any food or drink. It was taxing on them.”

The almost 800 people receiving chronic medication from the War Room, coupled with paranoia about medication shortages, left Cllr Shunmugam seeking urgent solutions.

Medipost is the result.

“The Department of Health encourages easy services to residents, and I believe this is an excellent service to the community. Also, the turnaround time is quick.”

Thanks to central depots and well-stocked inventories, the Medipost concept is spreading to other parts of Newcastle and surrounds.

“Many are taking advantage of this service, getting their medication delivered weekly,” Cllr Shunmugam concluded proudly.
