The municipality recently embarked on a clean-up campaign on Wednesday, December 9 at Jordan Parking in Terminus Street.
The campaign was focused on cleaning up the Central Business District, were municipal officials along with the Mayor, Afzul Rehman and municipal workers rallied together to address the issue of litter in the town.
“The aim of this initiative is to rejuvenate the CBD, we want people to come to a clean town to shop from our hawkers too. Let’s be part of the Back to Basics program and deal with litter in the CBD to create a model city,” said Cllr Rehman.
Acting municipal manager, Errol Mswane, was also in attendance in support of this campaign.
The campaign will run for the next six months, as municipal workers are assigned the responsibility of keeping the CBD clean and well maintained.
“This should not be a photo opportunity, but we should actually go out and clean the town,” encouraged Mr Mswane.
In conjunction with the clean-up campaign, the Department of Health capitalised on the opportunity to address other community needs. A tent was conveniently set up at Jordan Parking, where professional nurses provided diabetes and HIV screenings, as well as blood pressure testings to the community.
