Christmas cheer will not be found among motorists using Sutherland Street to access Paradise this December.
With construction under way to expand the taxi rank, taxi drivers are still parking their vehicles on the side of the road and are allegedly showing a total disregard to road regulations.
While many motorists might have held a glimmer of hope, when it was previously stated the expansion of the rank would take two weeks, that hope has been squashed.
“The department dealing with th construction indicated that there is a delay, owing to the shortage of asphalt and the subsequent delivery thereof,” said Chief Traffic Officer Ashok Anandhaw.
However, he assured the traffic flow would be monitored.
“Intensive law enforcement will be conducted in order to ensure compliance with road traffic laws. Drivers must take responsibility for the safety of all people around them by adhering to the K 53 driving standards.”
In the interim, motorists are encouraged to be patient and cautious when using Sutherland Street.
