The wait for a home continues
Mr Mchunu's poor living conditions, which included a leaking roof, crumbling walls and rats, prompted this decision
It’s been more than a year that 88-year-old Sikhombana Mchunu has spent without a decent roof over his head.
The elderly man has been living by the promise made to him by a government official during a road show in July 2013.
Mr Mchunu’s poor living conditions, which included a leaking roof, crumbling walls and rats, prompted this decision and he hoped that the wheels of service delivery would turn effectively.
But very little has been done to improve his conditions since that promise in 2013.
Thus far, Mr Mchunu, who lives in a dilapidated shack in Wembezi’s C-Section, says he has received a plan for his dwelling and not much else.
The octogenarian told the Estcourt News that he has been back and forth to the municipality to inquire about when his home will be built but he gets no satisfactory answers.
We posed this question to Umtshezi Municipality in December 2015 but no response has been received yet.
