The Madadeni Detective Unit had their work cut out for them over the weekend, initiating operations to track down wanted suspects.
Officers worked tirelessly from February 19 to February 22, and managed to arrest 16 perpetrators implicated in various crimes.
“The suspects were arrested in various parts of [the] Madadeni area,” said SAPS spokesperson, Major Thulani Zwane.
The culprits appeared before the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court on charges ranging from assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, kidnapping, burglary, common assault, and contravention of protection orders.
Earlier this month, Madadeni SAPS teamed up with Newcastle Public Order Police to conduct a Zero Tolerance crime prevention campaign. During the round-up, 28 suspects were arrested in and around Madadeni for similar offences.
KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, praised detectives for ensuring the suspects were brought to the book.
“This indicates that the members are committed to making sure those involved in any criminal activities will be arrested, and answer for their wrongful acts. We also appeal to the community not to hide criminals, but report them to the police,” she concluded.
