Complaints posted over decrepit boxes
“In April, I received the February and March water and lights accounts, three reminders from my bond holder of the interest rate hike, and last month's magazine, which was already replaced by a new one on the shop shelves.”
An Amajuba Park resident has called service delivery in Newcastle non-existent.
Lambasting both the Newcastle Municipality and the Postal Service, the resident is cheesed off at having to pay for no services rendered.
“In January this year, I was hounded by SMS to pay my postbox fees, which I did.”
She continued to say postal deliveries were well behind, and she often received post more than a month late.
The specific postboxes are situated near the intersection of Tugela and Renoster Avenues.
“In April, I received the February and March water and lights accounts, three reminders from my bond holder of the interest rate hike, and last month’s magazine, which was already replaced by a new one on the shop shelves.”
Her concern is that if the rates bills are paid late, whether due to delayed post or not, services are cut off and connection fees apply.
She also stated the post boxes were in a bad state.
“When last the municipality cut the grass in and around that area is anyone’s guess. We pay rates and taxes for those services.”
The details of the resident’s complaints were sent to the municipality for response, although none was received at the time of going to press.
Officials at the Postal Service were also contacted for clarity.
“That is controlled by the depot. I will take this complaint to the manager himself,” said a SAPO employee.
No further information was given by staff.
