Teacher demands that child goes on Ritalin
The doctor confirmed the mother’s suspicions that the child did not need Ritalin, but rather just a bit more attention
An upset mother came into the Gazette offices stating that a teacher at the school her child attends is convinced that her child needs Ritalin.
The mom said she took her child to a doctor, as she would rather first have a doctor clarify whether or not the child needed Ritalin. The doctor confirmed the mother’s suspicions that the child did not need Ritalin, but rather just a bit more attention.
She went back to the school, where the teacher again said the child could not concentrate and needed Ritalin. The mother then noticed that her child was seated at the back of the class.
She took her child to an occupational therapist, where again it was stated that the child does not need the medication. However, the mother put the child on Ritalin when the teacher persisted.
After three months of being on the pills, the child started complaining about feeling confused. The child now needs glasses, as one of Ritalin’s side effects is changing eyesight or blurred vision. The little one also struggles to sleep; insomnia is a side effect.
The mother has since taken the child off Ritalin and has the child doing assessment tests with the occupational therapist to be certain that Ritalin is not needed.
