THE Vryheid Tourism Association will officially launch its 2016/2017 brochure next month.
The bright green colour theme incorporated into the brand new design was a nostalgic choice, expressing the hope that spring rain will once again restore the town to the lush green haven it usually is.
“I think the choice of green is brilliant,” says honourary member of the Tourism Committee, Gustav Rohrs. “We made the decision because we are so hungry for green but if you go to an event where lots of brochures are stacked, ours will certainly stand out.”
The brochure is the product of six-month’s hard work put in by the 12 members of the Tourism Committee, and includes updated information regarding tourist sites, accommodation, local business, road maps and information about Vryheid and the surrounding area.
In the introductory note in the brochure, Tourism Committee member, Annalize Vorster, describes Vryheid as a unique gem, saying, “At the heart of Vryheid’s attraction to visitors lies its cultural heritage. History has cast the cream of the Zulu, Afrikaans, English and German people into the melting pot and out came the diverse entity which has become Vryheid as it is now. Late arrivals are added to the flavour.”
Mrs Vorster adds that natural diversity is also a big draw card. “With over 420 species of birds and many animals, reptiles, insects, amphibians and plants to view, it is an eco-tourist’s dream come true,” she says.
Following the launch, the brochure will be available at the AbaQulusi Tourism Information Bureau on Mark Street, and will serve as a valuable resource to promote the town and educate the community about Vryheid’s rich heritage.
Special thanks goes to Yolandi Steenkamp and Paul Steffensen for the hard work they put into the brochure.
