Once mighty Buffalo River is a virtual trickle

The water crisis is indeed that - a crisis

With news that the water crisis in Greytown has prompted authorities to close the taps, it is a miracle that Endumeni still has water – albeit sporadic and that the water restrictions have been called discriminatory as only the higher parts of the towns are affected.

Umzinyathi announced this week that in Greytown  ‘a decision was taken that from the morning of the 20th June 2016, water supply from the normal reticulation system will come to an end and water will be supplied in the Jojo tanks to prolong dam usage and that community members will have to cart water from these Jojo tanks located around town and the townships. These tanks will be filled once a day on a daily basis.’

A visit to the Buffalo River yesterday, Endumeni’s only source of water, showed a very narrow trickle as this mighty river battles to survive what some say is ‘the worst drought in 70 years’.

Please use water sparingly!  There is no substitute for water.
