4 arrests for fraud
The suspects were arrested in the Dundee CBD after they had upgraded cell-phone contracts using fraudulent documents
Four suspects were arrested by Dundee detectives and the Crime Intelligence Gathering (CIG) Unit on Friday (September 23) for forgery and uttering. The arrests were as a result of an intelligence-driven operation.
(Forgery is the creation of a forged document, with the intent to defraud; whereas “uttering” is merely the use of a forged document that someone else has made, with the intent to defraud)
The suspects were arrested in the Dundee CBD after they had upgraded cell-phone contracts with one of the major service providers using fraudulent documents.
The criminals were driving a vehicle with Gauteng registration plates and are all from Johannesburg.
Further investigation revealed that the fraudsters have been operating in Ladysmith, Glencoe, Dundee and Newcastle.
Police seized a number of fraudulent documents, including Identity Documents (IDs) with different photos.
The suspects will be profiled to determine the number of cases they can be linked to, and they will be charged for corruption and will appear in court soon.
